Lindon,Utah / London — June 25, 2001 — Lineo, Inc., an innovator in embedded systems, real-time and high availability solutions and Applied Data Systems (ADS), a leading developer of RISC-based systems, today announced a collaborative effort to provide a smart handheld device development platform that incorporates Lineo Embedix™ Plus for Smart Handheld Devices (SHDs) on the ADS Graphics Client Plus system.

At JavaOne, Lineo announced and demonstrated Lineo Embedix Plus for SHDs. The ADS Graphics Client Plus system, based on the StrongARM SA1110 processor, is the first hardware to run Embedix Plus for SHDs. The open standards platform, based on Linux and Java, uses the Lineo Embedix SDK to seamlessly integrate SHD solutions from Insignia, Trolltech and Opera Software.

The Graphics Client Plus board is specially designed for graphics-intensive applications with on-board I/O requirements. Four by six inches in size, the Graphics Client Plus is a work-horse single board computer used in vehicle computers, web tablets, automation systems and dozens of other applications. The Graphics Client Plus includes a StrongARM SA1110 processor, up to 3 serial ports, on-board Ethernet, CAN and IrDA, PCMCIA, USB slave, “smart” real-time I/O, and integrated flat panel and touch screen support.

Lineo Embedix Plus for SHDs, will incorporate Lineo Embedix SDK, Insignia Jeode™ Java Virtual Machine technologies, Trolltech Qt/Embedded™ graphical user interface and the Opera 5 for Linux Web browser. The platform has been developed to provide manufacturers with a complete solution to quickly produce SHDs, PDAs and other information appliances.

Lineo Embedix Plus for SHDs on the ADS Graphics Client Plus board will be demonstrated June 27-29 at Embedded Systems Expo and Conference, Tokyo, in Lineo booth #10-18.
